We are delighted to extend a formal invitation to you to participate in three significant events dedicated to cities and local governments held in line with Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship. These events are the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF), the ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) – formerly known as ASEAN Mayors Forum, and the Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) which will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 12 to 14 August 2025 [which includes the pre-event scheduled for 10–11 August 2025 and the post-event on 15 August 2025].

The three events will have one unifying theme, “ ASEAN Future Cities and Regions: Inclusivity and Sustainability”, which encapsulates a forward-thinking vision for cities and local governments development within the ASEAN region. It emphasises the dual goals of fostering inclusivity and promoting sustainability as foundational elements in the planning and development of future cities and regions. Together, these principles support the development of cities and local governments that meet the current needs of our populations, safeguard the environment, foster social equity, and enhance economic productivity.

These key events include:

• ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF)
• ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) - formerly known as ASEAN Mayors Forum
• Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) - by Invitation

In the context of the ASEAN sustainable urbanisation initiative, this theme aligns with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045: Resilient, Innovative, Dynamic, and People-Centred ASEAN and the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Strategy. It represents a holistic approach to urban living, advocating for environments where people can interact, engage, and prosper alongside nature, ensuring a better future for all ASEAN peoples.

Organised by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Malaysia in collaboration with URBANICE Malaysia and hosted by the City of Kuala Lumpur, the events are supported by the ASEAN Secretariat. It is also co-convened by United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) as the Secretariat of the AGMF, and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
