Official Publication: URBANICE Malaysia’s Journey at WUF13
The 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan, marked a significant milestone for Malaysia's sustainable urban development agenda. Operating under the global theme "Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities," URBANICE Malaysia proudly served as the appointed Secretariat for the Malaysia Pavilion on behalf of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
The Malaysia Pavilion functioned as a premier global knowledge hub, successfully hosting 48 dynamic sessions that included high-level dialogues, solution-based pocket talks, fireside chats, and cultural engagements. A major highlight was the pavilion's official inauguration by YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government, which coincided with the introduction and handover of the Asia-Pacific Urban Agenda Platform (AP-UAP) document to international member states. The pavilion also celebrated the launch of the Selangor Voluntary Subnational Review (VSR), multiple municipal Voluntary Local Reviews (VLR), and Think City's "From Roof to Resilience" publication. These milestones reinforced Malaysia's unwavering commitment to data-driven Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) localization, inclusive housing, and heritage preservation.
Beyond public showcases, the pavilion facilitated critical urban diplomacy through nine strategic bilateral meetings with nations such as Saudi Arabia, China, Uzbekistan, and Nigeria, alongside multilateral agencies like UN-Habitat and UNESCAP. These closed-door sessions focused heavily on affordable housing models, post-conflict urban reconstruction, and resilient infrastructure investments. Post-event analytics highlighted a 100% satisfaction rating for content relevance among delegates, firmly cementing Malaysia’s position as a thought leader in sustainable urbanization.
We invite urban practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to explore the full insights, policy frameworks, and collaborative solutions detailed in our official post-event reports.
