The mission from Urbanice Malaysia to New York for #HLPF2023, led by CEO TPr Ts Norliza Hashim, Deputy CEO Dr Azmizam Rashid, and Malaysia SDG Cities Lead Mohd Syafiq Subri, was highly successful. The delegation had the opportunity to actively participate in the mid-term review of SDG implementation and the preparations for the 2023 SDG Summit. They contributed their expertise and showcased regional best practices with Malaysia SDG Cities, highlighting the initiative as a prime example of SDG localisation acceleration.
Throughout the event, Urbanice Malaysia and the rest of the Malaysian delegation engaged as stakeholders and experts in various key sessions. Their active involvement in discussions on SDG localisation is expected to have a significant impact on the upcoming SDG Summit scheduled for September.
During the mission, Urbanice Malaysia proudly applauded the achievements of several cities and the Selangor State for successfully completing their voluntary local review and voluntary sub-national review process in 2023.
The cities and state that received recognition for their efforts are:
📍Melaka Historic City Council
📍Alor Gajah Municipal Council
📍Kuala Lumpur City Hall
📍Sepang Municipal Council
These voluntary reviews by the mentioned cities and state will be made available on the UNDESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs) website in the near future, allowing for further dissemination of their accomplishments and experiences in localising the SDGs.
