The Malaysia SDG Cities is a national initiative launched in 2020, to unleash the potential of Malaysian cities and their key stakeholders as champions of sustainable development and to implement the NUA. It recognizes that cities and communities play a crucial role to determine their own priorities and decide on the means of implementation to ensure that the SDG goals and targets are met.
The framework is set to encourage a bottom up approach to accelerate local action plans towards achieving the SDGs for Malaysia. Localizing the global goals in cities and urban environments in a nation like ours is the core of Malaysia SDG Cities ethos, to ensure vertical integration, effective implementation and realize aspirations between national and state policies at all levels.
Partnerships established within Malaysia's SDG Cities such as the inaugural public private collaboration with KL Convention Centre gave rise to the sustainable KLCC Precinct that includes participation from numerous local and international organizations.
Progress
Cities conclude their voluntary local reviews and share their findings at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as part of the High-level Political Forum and SDG Summit.
Efforts and projects undertaken by cities, such as the SDG Centre Kuala Lumpur are initiatives to raise awareness, beautify, revitalize and drive community action plans.

Malaysia SDG Cities Network
The SDG Cities Network is composed of local authorities, organizations and communities that are working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Malaysia. The network shall garner multi-stakeholders partnerships in formulating a more holistic development framework and to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs by 2030. This will further promote greater coherence among the activities of different development providers as we enhance the liveability of our communities in cities.
The Network aims to:
Promote sectoral knowledge exchange to advance the SDGs
Make connections between organizations working on the SDGs
Encourage organizations to collaborate and build partnerships on common SDG targets
Share and increase public awareness of the work currently being done by local governments and local organizations in cities that will advance the SDGs
Engage and encourage more local organizations to deliver and support the localisation of the SDGs in cities
